Agricultural Biotech
Agricultural biotechnology beyond plants extends to soil microbiomes, livestock genetics and precision-agriculture sensors. The session covers engineered nitrogen-fixing microbes (Pivot Bio platform), livestock gene editing (PRRS-resistant pigs from Genus PIC, hornless dairy cattle), precision-agriculture IoT sensors and AI, sustainable intensification frameworks, soil-microbiome biofertilisers replacing nitrogen inputs, and emerging technologies in pest and disease resistance. Discussion addresses agricultural biotechnology and climate-change mitigation, the One Health framework integrating livestock and human disease surveillance, the regulatory landscape for gene-edited livestock, and access to agricultural biotechnology in low- and middle-income countries.
